Are There any Good Role Models Within Our Society Today?
This article describes the affects society has on everyone. And how there are role models within this day in age.
Are there good role models within our society? Many would initially say there’s not that many, but when they stop to think about it we actually do have a lot of good role models among us. The problem is that with the way the media is all we hear about is which celebrity is smoking pot or the mayor of New York having an extramarital affair. It’s really sad to think we would rather watch news about those who are making big mistakes in their lives rather than listening about those who are helping us and making a difference but that’s the way it’s always pretty much been.
There are good people out there in this world. They just don’t get enough recognition, the reason behind this is they don’t seek the attention and the publicity being the good citizens they are they seek the gratitude and good feeling they receive from helping those in need. Good role models are all around us they just become shuffled behind those who aren’t so good. As human beings we somehow find a slight pleasure in listening to how the world is corrupting around us, the pleasure varying from person to person.
So when asked “Are there good role models among us?” of course your first thought goes to “You know I can’t recall.” Then as you start to think you think of your next door neighbor who volunteers his Christmas’s to the Salvation Army serving up food for the homeless. You stop to think of the lady at the local supermarket who goes out of her way to help you find exactly what you need despite the fact she hasn’t once thought of herself and taken a break within her nine hour shift. You think of the single mom who makes sure her children has a good environment, has food before she does, and a warm place to sleep at night only caring about her children, not even caring that she hadn’t gotten more than two hours of sleep from working three jobs to support her two children.
I believe that the good people within this world deserve much, much more credit than what they get. Unfortunately, with the way society is, unless in the end they do something horrible or unlike themselves the chances of them getting recognized are slim to none. Honestly, we need to come together and somehow convince the media of putting more good news out there than bad, we need to convince them we enjoy hearing about those who do good rather than those who do don’t, we need to stop occupying ourselves with which celebrity is in jail or on drugs and start looking at those who have adopted children in need, saved a life, fed a hungry child, or helped someone on a bus, held a door open for a little old lady. Until that day comes, we will continue to have to think before we say yes to if we have good role models within our society at this day in age.
