Are We Canadians Just Too Nice?

Oh, those Canadians, they are just so nice!  This has often been heard from the many visitors that have come to our fair land from other countries..  Yes, generally we are a polite bunch of people, but where do you draw the line between ‘nice’ and ‘doormat’?

Take our infinitely wise Canadian government for instance.  Our immigration policy seems to be loosening up while the Americans’ are primarily tightening their’s up…”Send us your poor, your oppressed’…And meanwhile we are accepting more immigrants yearly than almost any other nation worldwide.

But have we gone a little too far?  It seems that there are at least 300 (or so) government known terrorists loose in our home and native land of Canada (the Federal Government knows that they are IN Canada, but WHERE they are no one seems to know). What a scary thought that is!  This also begs the question that in light of  bombings that have happened in recent years in London and Egypt, could Canada be next on the ‘hit’ parade?  The Ottawa area police have just busted a large terrorist group that were intending on doing harm in Canada’s capital city.

The fact that our efficient Canadian government has no idea where these people is rather disconcerting.  This fact, along with another story shows the unfairness of their policies.   When a buddy of mine tried to come visit me from Chicago last summer was NOT allowed into the country because of indiscretions done while still in his youth.    We let people come in suspecting that they could possibly do us major harm, but my buddy?   Not a chance.

However, rather than being proactive, our government chooses to be reactive in such situations and are now ‘reviewing’ immigration and border crossing policies.  The Canadian/US border is the longest undefended border in the world, but for how much longer? 

The US has complained about terrorist cells that have come into the US via Canada’s open door policies.  When will the bleeding stop?
