Befriending Elders

I know this sound weird but I’m serious.

The title might sound weird and strange but I’m serious. I know for sure that we want a peer group that belongs to our age group and that is definitely healthy for our social life. Just beware of what friends you make. Remember, they influence you a lot without you being aware of it.

On the other hand, we always neglect the elders and seems antagonistic towards them but hey I wanna tell you that they’re not boring at all, absolutely not. Well,of course there are some but let’s just exclude them. Befriending elders means receiving more realistic feedbacks, more mature advice and at the same time, you’ll acquire so much by merely listening to their stories, experiences and whatever they have to say might just give you some insights of the life ahead of you. Let’s love them and respect them. I know a lot of them from this site. Thanks to you guys.

Thank you for this thoughtful post. I am always happy to share my experiences both as a writer and a teacher and it is always nice when someone thanks me for what I have shared.

A true and down to earth article. I agree that we could learn from the past.

This is very true-the elders so have the wisdom of the sages-the ones who are real. I believe in this as well and have always had many elderly friends, and I regret that many of my dear friends who took the place of family when I first came to Louisiana, are now deceased. These people took me under their wings and treated me and my children as though they were my parents and they were grandparents to my children! The advice I regret not taking was not to leave here when I did, to pursue a musical career in Nashville-given to me by an elder. But you know how that goes when we’re young. Anyway, this was a very nice article and so exact, thank you Jane!

Elders sure have some great stories to tell. I wish I heard more stories from my father before he passed.

Good to make online friends, as usually no generation gap, we are all here for common interest, that is, reading, writing, commenting, listening and sharing.
