Camera Phones; Are They All What They’re Hyped Up to be?
Does the mobile phone really double as a worthwhile digital camera, or are you just wasting your money?
Camera phones are nice and handy as they allow instant photography on the go, but first define your intentions upon buying the phone. Will you be taking pics to archive on the comp, or to post up online or text? If so a 3mp camera phone will yield just the same result as a 12mp camera phone. thus no need to spent more than a couple hundred dollars on a mobile. Will you be printing out your photographs, and if so what format? If you plan to print high quality and/or larger format prints, then a camera phone is not for you anyways. A digital or film camera is what you need! How many months or years do you see yourself using the camera phone? If you intend on upgrading to a better phone within 6 months to two years, a $1000 phone is a huge waste of money! Buy yourself a descent $300 phone, which you can upgrade for something better in due time. The remaining $700 can go towards a nice entry level digital SLR camera or a very fancy point and shoot digital camera, the digital SLRoption, being the more desirable one. You’ll get years of use out of your camera. Thus not only is a digital camera far superior technologically than the camera phones, they are also a good long term investment. Convenience is one thing, overkill is another.
If you value your hard earned cash and plan to do some serious photography, a camera phone is a rapidly devaluing device that doesn’t even offer photograph quality of cheap digital cameras. You need to wisely choose how to spend your money without being ripped off buying a device you; a. don’t need, b. a device you’ll lose huge money on in the long run, and c. a camera phone which wont allow you the capability you ultimately need for your photography. Camera phone for the sake of spending it!s are convenient, yes but buying top of the line, feature packed camera phones just cos they are all the rave, is bluntly put, a waste of money! Its that simple. Mega pixels aren’t everything when it comes to photography! Id take a lower mp digital SLR over a 12 mp camera phone any day! Do the research if you need the photography power, if you don’t question your reasoning on buying a 12mp camera phone. You’ll end up saving alot of money.
So are camera phones all they are cracked up to be? That depends on the phones price. Is it a $200 phone or a $1200 phone. If its the latter then the answer is simple. It is not. The best camera phone is inferior in comparison to specifically made digital cameras. Don’t get sucked in the hype. Research, decide, and only then part with your cash!
