Couples will be able to begin marrying 30 days after the bill is signed into law. New York is the sixth state to allow same sex marriage. Lady Gaga tweeted, “I can’t stop crying. We did it kids. The revolution is ours to fight for love, justice + equality. Rejoice NY, and propose. We did it!”
Trouble actress Lindsey Lohan wrote tweeted before the vote, “I think that what is happening in NY tonight is an incredible thing.”
Popular daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres tweeted “I’m thrilled about the news from NY. Marriage equality! Every day we get a little closer. What an amazing feeling.”
New York could become a Mecca for gay couples hoping to marry since the state does not require that a couple be from the state to get a marriage license.
New York joins Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa and Washington, D.C. as States that give gay couples the right to marry.
