Chacha Nehru

Children’s day is celebrated on the 14th of November as it is the birthday of Pandit Nehru. He said that the present children are the future citizens.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was lovingly called `Chacha Nehru’. Pandit Nehru was the first prime minster of India.

He was born in Allahabad. His father Sri Motilal Nehru sent young Jawaharlal to England to study law. Pandit came back to India after completing his studies.

India, at that time, was ruled by the British. Panditiji joined the people in their first for freedom. He was loved by all. He became a leader of the people.

The British sent him to jail many times. But Panditiji used the time in the jail to write books. When India becomes independent, Pandit was made the first prime minister. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru loved children. The children lovingly called him` Chacha Nehru’.

His father Motilal Nehru was a staunch congress man and follower of Gandhi. Jawaharlal became a barrister. He was greatly influenced by socialist ideas. He played a key role in the struggle for independence. He went to jail many times. He gave up every thing for the sake of our country.

Indian national congress held it’s annul session at Lahore in December 1929. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru presided over it. At this session complete independence for India was declared to be the aim of the congress. He became the first prime minister of independent India.

Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru put forward five principles according to which the countries of the world should co-operative with one another. These five principles are:

1)      Peaceful co – existence

2)      Equality and mutual benefit

3)      Non- aggression towards each other

4)      Non- interference in each other’s affairs

5)      Respect for each other’s freedom and territorial integrity
