Endowed with abundant natural resources, Laguna has a lot to take pride in not only with material riches but with talents and skills as well. The man who made a great history, Jose Rizal, and the man who wrote the history, Gregorio Zaide, are both from Laguna. Continuing the legacy of leadership are Gabriela President Liza Maza, Senator Loren Legarda, and former Senator Joey Lina Jr. who are from the same province. Reporting the leadership, hailing from Laguna as well, are media personalities Susan Enriquez, Jiggy Manicad, and Sol Aragones. These are just some of the many names Laguna can boast.

Laguna province does not only thrive in the field of politics and media. If he were still alive, Jose Rizal would be very proud that many celebrities in the modern times came from his hometown. From the late Didith Reyes to the present day Julia Clarete, Rico Blanco, Mark Herras, and Angelica Jones, there is a long list of Laguna natives who made it to the limelight. These Filipino celebrities among many others went on to prove that the youth, indeed, is the hope of the Fatherland in many ways. The incumbent governor of the province himself, Emilio Ramon Ejercito III is a former actor.

And if there is something Jose Rizal should be greatly proud of if he were still alive, that would be Charice Pempengco, a Laguna native. Let’s say they are different in many ways. Rizal was born financially well-off, Charice was the opposite. Rizal had a complete big family, which Charice was deprived of. Nevertheless, Rizal and Charice are in the same page in terms of patriotism- with Rizal’s death for the country and the honor Charice gave to the country. Moreover, both Rizal and Charice showed exceptional talent at a very young age and they grew up using their gifts to become a Filipino pride.

Many Laguna natives made and are making Jose Rizal and the Filipinos proud. At the same time, they have many things to disprove the prejudice attached to Filipinos by Filipinos. When it is Filipino made, Filipinos most likely regard it second-class. Let us be proud that we are Filipinos and our Filipino products are world-class, just like Charice. Keep in mind that the real Filipino patriot patronizes Filipino products.
