Eating Habits of The People of Britain

The eating and drinking habits of people in Britain using information gained from recent surveys.

The following information is correct as of 30th September 2009.

A number of surveys have recently been conducted on www.toluna.com into the eating and drinking habits of people in Britain with interesting findings.   The aim was to discover information about expenditure, tastes and the impact of eating and drinking guidelines on the people of Britain.  Here are the results:

TAKE AWAYS AND EATING OUT

Several questions were asked to find out the tastes of people in Britain with regard to takeaways and their average expenditure.

What is your favourite take away?

Indian 36%     Chinese 27%    Fish & Chips 18%    Burgers 5%    Kebabs 5%

This shows that Britain is developing a greater cultural diversity in relation to their eating habits.

Do you prefer curries hot or not?

Hot 44%   Not 56%

How much do you spend per week eating out?

£0-10 40%   £11-20 20%   £21-30 5%   £31-40 15%   £41-50 0%   £50+ 5%   Never eat out 15%

Despite the credit crunch, people still seem to be eating out!

DRINKS

Do you prefer coffee or tea?

Coffee 47%   Tea 53%

How many units of alcohol do you drink in an average week?

0  50%   1-5  14%   6-10  14%   11-15 0%   16-20 0%    21+ 21%

This shows that coffee and tea are almost equally popular.  Over a fifth of people in Britain are ignoring recommended safe drinking limits.

FOOD

Do you eat five portions of fruit and vegetables daily?

Every day 9%   Most days 55%   Occasionally 27%   Never 9%

This shows that a worryingly high proportion of people are ignoring the five a day guidelines regarding fruit and vegetables.

Are you a vegetarian?

Yes  10%    No 71%   No, but I have been previously  19%

Do you eat shellfish?

Yes  53%   No  47%

How often do you eat ready meals?

Daily  15%   Weekly  22%   2-3 times a month 17%   Monthly 11%   Less than every four months 22%  

Never 17%

This shows that a large number of people rely on convenience foods rather than cooking from scratch.

Have you altered your grocery spending habits since the credit crunch began?

Yes 79%   No 21%

These findings show that a high proportion of people have been affected by the credit crunch.

These findings show that snacks are still an important factor in the diet of British people.

    i dont eat out unless a quick snack counts as eating out, sandwiches, no fruit or veg, fish, potatoes, cheese etc, dont follow me though, i am on my own.
