Emperor Akihito at The Hospital
Emperor Akihito hospitalized since Sunday (11/6/2011) suffering from fever for several days, according to the spokesman for the Japanese Imperial Palace Household.

According to a spokesman for the palace, Akihito who is now 77 years old, “will be treated starting tonight because of prolonged fever and showed symptoms of bronchitis.”
“He looked weak and lose the strength to fight disease. To be safe, he is now treated at the University of Tokyo Hospital,” said a spokesman who declined to name. Last February, Akihito also hospitalized.
Television footage showed Emperor Akihito arrives at Tokyo University Hospital, accompanied by Empress Michiko, as reported by AFP news agency.
Akihito was hospitalized a few days after his grandson, Aiko, the daughter of Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako, was hospitalized for pneumonia. Aiko only allowed to go home on Saturday (11/05/2011).
On Sunday, Japan’s cabinet approved the appointment of Crown Prince Naruhito’s decision to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Emperor of Japan.
Akihito was born in Tokyo in December 1933 and was named as crown prince in 1952. Seven years later he married Michiko. The couple has three children.
On January 7, 1989, Akihito took the throne to succeed his father, Emperor Hirohito, who died. Japan is mentioned in the constitution, the emperor is a “symbol of unifying the country and the people.”
When Japan hit by the earthquake that caused the tsunami waves, Emperor Akihito televised speech. In a historic speech, he asked the Japanese people to “do his best to save people who suffer.”
“I really hope the victims of natural disasters is not despair, caring, and resilient to face tomorrow,” Akihito spoke of his palace.
“I also want to remember the Japanese people affected everyone, not just today, but also for a long time after this, it also helps in the recovery effort,” he said in a calm tone.
