Everyday Happiness Day
A small inventory of ourselves can change our bad mood into a good.
Generally, it’s a known fact that we and only we are responsible for making “today” – a great or a bad day for our-self. Yet its an equally strange part of our human nature that we devote much of our time thinking about – either what best could have happened yesterday, or how to plan a better tomorrow – simply forgetting about “today – the present” we have for ourselves.
Also, for years we have been judging a good or bad today often by a parameter called “Mood”. Good mood = Good day, Bad mood = Bad day. But hey, do you know that experts in psychology and studies on human nature have suggested answer for your bad mood too, which most of the times falls in one of the categories listed below. What you have to do is simply identify “your category” of bad mood and change it into good one. Its simple!!
1) You might be thinking extremes at this point of time and statements such as – “I am either fully good or just bad”, “completely successful or a complete failure”, “a very important person or useless fellow” etc. are pounding in mind. This being identified as a reason for bad mood, it must be noted that noone’s life completely exists in black or white and everyone generally swings between flaws and perfection. You are indifferent to this simple basic fact!
2) Drawing a conclusion out of a single bad incidence or experience can be termed as over-generalisation. An example in this category can be fixing a mindset that marriages are outdated and this system is not worth as a whole, because some marriages end up in divorce/break-up. Give a thought if your bad mood falls in this group.
3) To presume and conclude without facts is an interesting category to result in a bad mood. Thoughts of your presumed failure without any identified reasons or concluding that someone is giving you a negative reaction without discovering any facts, are classic examples of this type. Hold on friend, control your anxiety, and gather some real facts before you reach a conclusion!!
4) Idealizing life with “musts” and “must-nots” is another factor ending into a bad mood. Individuals in this category wrap themselves up with unrealistic expectations either a) from others, often ending up in feelings of anger, resentment or frustration, or b) from self, often ending up in or guilt or disappointment. For an individual who is prey to such category of bad mood, it is time to discount on others/self, in spite of getting locked in do’s and dont’s of life!!
5) Personalized labeling, forms a part of one’s habit causing unnecessary mood exhaustion. See, if you are unnecessarily seeing or attributing yourself to a cause of some negative external event, which in fact you are not responsible for. A good example to understand this type is – accepting being abused by others with statement such as “I was responsible for this abuse since I did not resist”, which is not true. On the contrary, such a person should understand that victim of abuse often does not have capacity or knowledge to resist abuse.
These expert tips show that a bad mood is the result of distortion some common thought & beliefs. Development on individual thought processes with a little study of these can help replace a bad mood into a good one always!!
