Filipino actor, Kirk Abella, 32, was shot and killed while filming the movie “Going Somewhere” in Cebu, Philippines. Abella was in the midst of filming the final scene in which his character is involved in a drive-by shooting being committed by two masked men on a motorcycle. While filming the scene, a local security guard, unaware that it was all an act, fired shots at the masked men as they sped away from the scene. Abella was hit by the shots and died later in the hospital.
The security guard, who turned himself in after realizing what had happened, explained that local residents had complained that there were armed men in the area. The guard, who was obviously not aware that the filming was taking place at the time, took immediate action. Nowadays there are many street killings in the Philippines committed by gunmen on motorcycles, and the guard thought that this was another case of criminal activity. He has now been charged with murder.
When trying to place the blame for Abella’s murder, one must first look to the British theater company in charge of the film. The responsibility for Abella’s tragic death must be placed squarely on their shoulders. They obviously did not take the necessary precautions and inform local residents that the filming was taking place at the time. It is unfortunate that the local security guard, one of many volunteer watchmen who risk their lives every night to try and keep the peace on the streets of the Philippines, will probably go to prison over the incident.
So, who is to blame? Feel free to offer your thoughts in the space below.

I think the film organizers and the local authorities in the area are mainly responsible for the tragic incident. Don’t they get clearances or permits for using public places? If so, then the residents should have also been properly informed by the local authorities.
