Five Most Notable Deaths of 2011

These were men’s death caused great grief around the world in different measures.

Every year, the world grapples with notable deaths-the kind that happens and heads turn from Texas to Manila and from Sydney to Iceland. In 2011, there were quite some very moving deaths that brought tears in ordinary homes allover the globe. In my opinion, these great icons who died in 2011 touched many hearts

North Korean Kim Jong II

On  December 18 2011, the World’s most notable dictator, Dear Leader Kim Jong il passed on while taking a train ride. He was 69 and his death left not only North Koreans in deep grief, but the whole world wondered what was going to happen after him. His death was anticipated because he had been battling cancer. Two days of mourning has been concluded and his heir The Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un is officially the new leader of North Korea, keeping the Kim dynasty alive since the beginning of the last century.

Vaclav Havel

This great architect of the Czechoslovakian “velvet revolution” spear-headed the Eastern European Pro-democracy struggles following the collapse of the Soviet Union. He died on the same day as Kim Jong Il on 18th December 2011 in his house. Vaclav was also an intellectual with many books written to his accolade. He will be remembered as the main figure of the 1989 revolutionary movements that spread through out the communist world, especially Esatern Europe.

Steve Jobs

He died in October 2011 and paralyzed the whole world with grief. About a million people from all over the world felt his death, which by all standards was the seminal event of 2011 in the computer sector. He was arguable the most innovative brain the world ever saw-he succumbed to pancreatic cancer. He will be remembered for bringing Apple single handed-ly to the level of success that many companies could only dream about. The whole world believes, his passing on will never leave Apple ever the same again.

Osama Bin Laden

Osama bin Laden, one of the world’s most notable terrorists was killed on May 2, 2011 on the orders of President Barrack Obama. The operation Neptune Spear was conducted in Pakistan, ending over 10 years of trying to get at the Alqaeda leader. Many think the killing of Osama was brutal and illegal because those who caught him should have put him on trial instead of shooting him before his wife and without any resistance to arrest on his part.

 Muammar Gaddaffi

The uprising which started in February 2011 soon gained momentum and by October 20 2011, Gaddaffi had been arrested in his Home town of Sirte hiding under a bridge he built before being  killed by the rebels. The manner of his death again did not portray the NTC as a law abiding team, but before the world knew what was happening, Gaddaffi who had been the King of Libya for 42 years was dead and unlike Kim Jong Il, he did not have the opportunity of handing over power to one his many sons.
