Five Reasons Why Gordon Brown Should Win The Election

David Cameron seems to think he will be the Prime Minister for Wimbledon, but I think things might be a little more tricky than that.

Upon watching the Piers Morgan interview with Gordon Brown on Sunday 14 Feb, a couple of things struck me about the leader and the potential future leader of Great Britain. Firstly it needs to be said that people are extremely fickle when it comes to these battles and swing in side to side and then don’t rock up to vote. Polls mean very little as demonstrated once more this week, when people were asked to give their opinions of Gordon Brown based on Sky News’s reporting of the interview that would only be broadcast on the Sunday following. So what exactly did they base their opinion on? The reporting of the News Channels, which let’s face it can influence the outcome by reporting in a particular manner.

But all in all, I watched it already not a hater of Brown, but not much of a fan of Cameron and came to my own conclusion why I think Brown is a better option:

  1. Firstly a lot of people seem to be of the opinion that to have been a wild student having experimented with drugs and alcohol abuse as well as planting the seed of love is what makes you human for learning from your mistakes. But what is wrong with a leader like Brown learning from the mistakes of others and avoiding it all together? We all know where Cameron and his bunk buddy Boris Johnson think of drug use.
  2. Passion. You see interviews with Cameron and you don’t feel like he knows what life is like on the other side. His big election popularity was his cycling photoshoots and his family values. But the passion is lacking in his speaches. He in fact has voted for a lot of the big issues I have with Labour, being the war and economic issues. Hindsight is lovely.
  3. Policy. Now that is a big issue for me. The Liberal Democrats don’t really have a tangible solution and wouldn’t be able to form government. However their local policies are very good and their councils are run very well indeed. The Conservatives don’t have much of a policy and although they have formed government before, their councils lack basic green initiatives like recycling bins in affluent neighborhoods, which contradicts Cameron’s cycling image. Was t only for show? Labour have been doing a good job both from a local government as well as policy setting at the top and sticking with them might actually yield the results that they are currently moving towards.
  4. The economy. Well, I don’t think that Nick Clegg can fix the economy, but they will do a great job locally and run their councils efficiently. I like Nick Clegg because he is a secular humanist, meaning he might actually tax the churches and mosques as apposed to giving them free reign to make money and not pay tax. Cameron has got no plan, although he says he has many, but none good enough to be published. So it would be like a pot-luck policy, much like a cricket captain that follows the ball rather than bowl to a field. Brown however have put some good steps in place and in hindsight they have reversed their policy on deregulating banks to allow them to generate larger profits, but banks proved to the world that they are completely irresponsible with such liberties and thus they are now acting harshly to make sure this doesn’t happen again. but with democracy comes red tape so it takes time and I don’t trust Cameron to complete the process. The crisis was global and where the rest of Europe started to recover before us with different policies – none of which agrees with Cameron’s ideas – and are now heading back to a second recession Britain is on course to come out more stable and better equiped to pay back the debts with Brown and Darling in charge.
  5. The man: We know that both leaders of the Tories and of Labour have had great sadness in their lives and thus they have great empathy for people who have problems. And in spite of great loss, the election is not about personal loss, but personal ability and Gordon Brown have got a track record where Cameron doesn’t. He’s no Tony Blair – and he voted for that war which he now says he was mislead to do – and will not win multiple terms either way. Brown is a passionate character who might get angry from time to time when things are going badly, but he stays around in spite of it. I can almost guarantee you that if Cameron looses the election he will also loose the leadership within his own party.

Anyways. I’m not trying to convince you, but sharing my opinion. Why would we change when things are starting to show promise again? Let’s not degenerate into making fox hunting legal and saving the rich a few bob when we could see this as an era where we put the government in power and have a say about how they will run it. The Tories make a lot of noise about government U-Turns on policy, but what that says to me is that they listen to the people when they make a mistake. Isn’t that what we want our gornment to do? Within reason at least.

So if you are like me leave a comment and tell me what you think. Or if you think that Cameron is the man, tell me why. I am open minded about it, but I’m afraid that the Tories are a little like a Toyota at the moment… They don’t know when to break and when to move.

I understand what you are saying. But surely we should not protest and change government if there really aren’t better options out there.

Are you saying we should simply give up and accept things as they are because we’re uncertain if someone different is the answer? That seems a little lazy, almost as if you’re giving up! Doing nothing will surely produce nothing.

Quaint to read the bleatings of sacrificial goats
just before they get under the knife!

Dont worry, the mahometans you are so fond of
will not leave any of you to deface the planet…
