What are the social standards for success in a capitalist society?
I was recently posed the question, “are you going to your 10 year reunion”? To which I promptly said “No!”
The main reason being that I did not need the stress of sword fighting every dude in the joint about who is more successful and proving to every girl that it was a mistake to pass on this.
But it did get me thinking, what are the social standards for success in a capitalist society which we all find ourselves?

Let’s just air this out right now. If you look good you are healthy. Let me prove that to you. Picture this – a fat overweight slob male/female with jaundice. This person looks like a trucker’s ugly cousin. No chance that person is a health nut. Point proven.
Looks portray success. Studies prove this fact, and politics are based on it. That is why it made number 6. But not all good looking people are successful.
You know this symptom of success. The “I don’t have shit to worry about” attitude. Mostly because everything in this shallow person’s life was given to them. They have never worried about anything from college tests, to scoring the next sack of weed.
Now there are several types of houses and someone could argue having a crappy homestead isn’t the best thing. True, but when it comes to successful people you need a house. How often do you here this from your successful friend, “I am really doing well at the firm. Just made partner, $110K baby. Sure I am still living with my mom and no I am not moving out.” How’s about never.
Even if you have struck out on the previous 3 items you still have a chance here. The rationale behind this pick is simple: successful people are flocked with there choice of mates. Look at Bon Jovi, Fergi, Derrick Jeter heck even Bill Clinton. To be successful you need to be getting you some. Some of whatever you choose, but some.
It is true money does not equal happiness. But there is sure as shit a high correlation between success and money.
