Gays and Other Things: My Take

A controversial topic, but everyone is entitled to think the way they want to.

I know this is a controversial topic, but I also know that everyone is entitled to think the way they want to and to have their own opinion: even though the opinion may differ from person to person. The topic of “gays” surfaced again with the legalization of gay marriage just passed in New York. Some were happy and some were not: again, just a matter of opinion.

I remember an incident where a friend of mine had a good friend in office whom she felt very comfortable with. When she quite by accident discovered he was gay, she didn’t feel quite so comfortable. After this initial reaction however, she realized that the said friend was a very warm person, extremely sensitive, trustworthy, and so on and so forth: qualities that are not readily found in everyone. She gradually came to terms with “everything”, and they are still good friends.

If two people of the same sex are comfortable with each other and happy in each other’s company, is this better or worse than:

  • Indiscriminately opening fire on innocents?
  • Mentally torturing and emotionally blackmailing someone who was once close to you?
  • Stealing, cheating, murdering, looting?
  • And so on and so on?

Is it better or worse than:

  • Lying?
  • Going down a one-way street?
  • Throwing your garbage in front of someone else’s front gate?
  • And so on and so on?

You judge for yourself. And again, each one is entitled to their own opinion.
