High Priced Society: Finding a means to live

Finding the means of living in high priced society. Every where that you look it seems that the price of living is just going higher and higher as each day passes. The more that people try, the more that they need to catch up regardless of what is happening around them. Prices for living aren’t dropping by any means. I know that there are many tax payers that look at the families and people on social assistance and believe that they are just sponging off the system. Those being the ones that make more than enough to live comfortably. But that isn’t so.

With the price of living today, with each time that the cost of living goes up the poverty line also makes that jump. I have talked with many different people. I wanted to know what they thought was a comfortable income for a year to live off of. Most had said 35 000 a year should be comfortable. Those happened to be people that I know make more than 60 000 a year. Those that I know are struggling I had asked and they said that 50 000 a year would be comfortable. One of these people who I speak to often even went to lengths of telling me that they only make 36 000 a year and find it stressful to think that people actually believe that they should relax because he is above the poverty line.

I don’t think that many people know what the poverty line is any more. When I was a child I remember my parents saying that you could still live comfortably on 20 000 a year. That was over fifteen years ago. I did some checking in what the Canadian government is calling the poverty line and they only gave a range. They quoted 25 000 to 37 000 a year. I felt baffled that there was no straight-forward answer to that. Then I started to get information on the expenses of living and I took in to consideration what many of the people struggling would like. All they really wanted was to live in a place that wasn’t falling apart, and could afford more food than 300 dollars a month. To be able to pay the bills and not worry about missing or being late on a bill payment.

When I took all that into consideration and I looked at the full possibilities of that, and I actually discovered that in order to be able to live in the basic kind of comfort that people desire that are struggling at the moment. It would take nearly 40 000 a year to do that. If the poverty line is up so high and people think that the poverty line is lower no wonder why there is the misconception about families and people sponging off the system. With that kind of levels in Canada there is very little that any one can do about that. The prices keep rising and the economy is growing. There is not a lot that many people can do to make sure that there is enough to keep comfortable in their own lives.
