Indonesia Most Corrupt in Asia Pacific

SINGAPORE – MI: According to the survey carried Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC), Indonesia tops the list of most corrupt country among 16 countries in Asia Pacific investment destination. Singapore is at the bottom.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who in his campaign for the presidency some time ago promised to crack down on corruption even became the leader of the most corrupt country in Asia Pacific. It seems to be influenced by its association with Finance Minister Boediono and Sri Mulyani with Century Bank scandal controversy.

In the survey, Indonesia get 9.27 of the total score of 10. In 2009, Indonesia also tops the list. But, at that time the score was still better ie 8.32. In the second most corrupt country in Asia Pacific are Cambodia with a score of 9.10 and followed by Vietnam and the Philippines.

PERC is based in Hong Kong expressed despite vice president and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani was facing problems associated with Century, they were still rated as the most respected figures in the government of President Yudhoyono. The decision that the two officials to provide a bailout for troubled banks Century may significantly affect their positions, but it’s entirely manipulative and politically, PERC said.

Singapore became the least corrupt country with a score of 1.42 followed by Australia with a score of 2.28 and Hong Kong in third place with 2.67. The survey by PERC held in December to January 2147 involving senior and middle expatriate businessmen in 16 countries in Asia.
