Interview with Katherine Moe: A Social Worker
A social worker described in one piece.
Sitting in front of Katherine Moe, as I interview her she speaks about her Social work with a client. The most important objective, is do to, no harm. This means the Social Worker can’t say, “I would like you better if you had more friends, which was a bad example, they must say, I would like it better if you had ore friends.” That way the pressure or harm isn’t directed towards the patient. In other words, the social worker does not aim the focus of harm onto the client.
Using fundamental areas that are unconditional, positive regards and it is a great initiative towards life for clients. Unconditional in this case, describes not changing one’s belief, or one’s objective. In psychotherapy the objective is the same, but with much more emphasis and back and forth with abstract and concrete notifications. Katherine was a very good subject to interview because she was precise and straight- forward when she spoke.
People who are very laid back with their work, whether it is a psychologist, or a social worker have a hard time coping with their emotions as well. Katherine answers, “Many have trouble trying to put aside their work from family can sometimes be a real struggle. This can touch a lot of emotions.”
This can send terror in sleep or just sad at wake. The best way, to focus, is just try to be in a quiet position and work with your emotions by being with your friends. Many of us, who are put in a situation like this, one’s behavior, feelings or thoughts might be different in trying to get the right comfort across when dealing with a patient.
People have different desires in wanting to be a therapist, psychologist or social worker. This is just another way Katherine knew how she wanted to become a social worker.
“I knew I wanted to be a therapist, and I really liked my therapist before. In the end, I just really liked social work because I liked that one doesn’t see the person as just a person, but in the context of culture and family.”
Advice is very hard to give, when wanting to be help to person’s who are in great need because their lives are obviously so abstract that it is hard to give advice and have your mind split into a concrete stage of mind.
“I don’t have an answer to that question, although I will give it a shot. A social worker is good in the sense that one can really help people’s values a lot. The bad perspective of being a social worker is that it doesn’t pay that well and it is emotionally draining. “
Psychologists, social workers, and therapists, have the same essence in learning how to deal with a client and or patient, but some study differently.
“Learning about the difference we see in either a social worker, or a psychologist, is basically a range of different studying. A social worker will study different persons in social content and it the community. In the other hand, psychologists will study testing, like IQ testing and what not.”
