Is Cebu The Next Nation’s Capital?
Is Cebu the Next in Line as the Philippine Economy Capital?
After the huge flood in Metro Manila and the recent loss of properties estimated to reach more than 1 billion pesos, I was wondering if the next in line in progress is Cebu particularly in the major cities. I think people will flock the island when investors turn their eyes in Cebu as a good prospect in business ventures next to Manila. When this happen, this will be a good example of the saying Ones’ downfall is another’s success.
Philippines as we all know often times spared with huge natural calamities like the recent tsunami that affected the neighboring countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and many more with over 50,000 people dead and billions of dollars in property loss. The usual tragedy occurring here are those that could have been avoided like the capsizing of a passenger vessel Princess of the Star that left over 800 deaths or mudslides in Leyte with 3,000 people dead and the like. Those accidents could have been avoided if only the nation’s government stop discussing about politics and get more prepared for the nation’s welfare especially in disaster control like previously mentioned. Politics is a huge issue and discussion in Philippines same goes with religion as people debate what they believe.
Metro Manila as of the moment is widely affected by the typhoon flood with over 450,000 people affected causing economy to freeze for several days now. Expert says, it would take time for NCR (National Capital Region) to get back on its feet.
Cebu on the other hand has been with the Osmena’s or the Garcia’s as the prominent families holding the province and people were respectful to these leaders.
They actually held the region very well with least complains and one can really attest that Cebu Province is a better place to live than Metro Manila even before the recent flood.
People in the capital city maybe warm as the usual Filipinos are but in Cebu, expect better treatment as people just seemed to be a little harmless compared to capital city but not as safe as the Japanese of course.
In fact, Cebu is Asia’s 4th placer island to go for an island destination. When you get there, it’s quite a simple place with simple airport, simple transportation but people are very warm and friendly with or without bribe. Some of the people maybe a little aloof but because they just do not want to get involved but are always ready to help.
The Cebuanos are actually good workers and can speak better English compared to other places of the country that is because the prominent families holding the place are from American descent. Well, whatever will happen to Philippine economy after the recent tragedy the citizens can only hope for the best.
