Lack of Culture

The way of certain faculties.

If it is something sociological it will not get far off the ground. The sad thing is that the lack of reference to this and related studies such as philosophy and psychology means that this continent is headed for a real decline. The cause is the tendency to produce an endless amount of technocrats and bureaucrats as the expense of anything cultural. Sounds devastating? It does not surprise me why there is much less money available for a sociology faculty than there are for those faculties that carry the big bucks.

Much of what I get from America is a great lack of cultural education compared to what is being produced to run software companies and engineering firms. The faculties which educate future programmers and engineers

are so specialized that whatever knowledge is generated by them is too narrow to have any cultural worth, the new civil engineer might know his domain but he is terribly weak in anything sociological, anthropological or philosophical. This means that America is fast becoming a wasteland of no culture.

This is what was wanted in the world of producing endless waste; money making enterprises were chosen over the poorer ones which were hitched to the humanities and anything sociological. That said, you may have a person who is at the top o his specialized technological field, he won’t be doing well in anything to do with people issues, mass exoduses, child labour rising again and the ever present inequality of women at the workplace. This is not to say that an engineer won’t be sensitive to certain worldly problems, he will just be incapable of really being able discuss problems outside of his domain. That will make him terribly unattractive to people looking for an understanding of human issues.
