Lite Society or Real Society You Choose?

My views on western societies obsession with whats best for you!

Last night I was watching one of my favourite movies of all time “There is something about Mary” in one particular scene the expression “Lite beer” or “Real beer” was mentioned.  I had no idea what that means beer in Britain is sold by the name ie Stella,Fosters,Kronnenberg,Budweiser, etc.  So this morning I googled it, it means either low in alcohol content or low in calories [You live and learn].  I further more learnt its illegal in some sates in America to sell any beer that isn’t lite! there were several states the one i remember was Colorado.

Now I am very much in favour of free speech and having your own life style choices, as long as they don’t impact in a negative way on anyone else.  To my way of thinking if you choose to have a beer or cider or a glass of wine, there are two things every adult is aware of, 1, These drinks are alcoholic ie they will impact on your brain and nervous function by starving them of oxygen which is replaced by alcohol simple! further more if you drink too much alcohol you can experience blurred vision, slurred speech and loss of inhibitions and a general feeling of well being.  2 The brewing process for making alcohol involves sugar and lots of it, your chosen drink may not taste sweet but sugar will be used in the brewing process on most alcoholic drinks.  So you drink too much you will also get fat, same as if you eat too many sweet cakes you will get fat.

Now obesity is the new disease of the western world no doubt about it the research is everywhere you turn. Fast food joints and lack of exercise plus our western diet has been poor for years, rich in saturated fats and salts.  Now exercise, I live in a typical street in a typical town in Britain.  Now the streets aren’t safe to walk jog or cycle, muggings stabbings and even murders are frequent.  The average Britain drives everywhere with locked doors on their cars [I know I do] if we need to exercise we have to join a gym to run on a tread mill or work out, when outside is a free street to run on no charge! except its dangerous.

Government’s intervention in what we do is not limited to beer or food.  My light bulb blew in my upstairs hall way no big deal, i went to the supermarket to buy a replacement.  I searched the shelves for ages getting frustrated i could not find the same wattage bulb, i called over the assistant and politely asked for a 100w bulb for my upstairs landing? I was told outright “We cant sell 100w bulbs anymore its the law!” I laughed and said “Funny, good one but where are the 100w bulbs?” the upshot of the conversation was, they truly are not allowed to sell 100w bulbs in Britain now because of the impact on our “Carbon Footprint”.  I explained that in our hallway we only have one light and a 60w bulb just isn’t bright enough, we cant see its not safe! a shrug of her shoulders and off she walked the nice assistant!

Loved it. Here when you want a 60 watt bulb you must now buy a 67 watt bulb because they think you really wanted a 75 watt bulb. In any event the threads will soon no longer fit the sockets as we are to be forced into buying low impact bulbs at thrice the price.

The struggle to be able to make our own mistakes is on going. Just give me the information and let me make my own decisions.
