Minority Inclusion (Disability)
What can be carried out by our Communities to ensure that this minority of Disability is actively included and engaged in society.
Disability, even from Malta, got so interested and had the ability to integrate together although the language barrier.
According to what Mr. Galea said, he is doing a magnificent work. He is trying to actively integrating them into the society by means of outings for socialising. The fact that he tries to go every Sunday in a hotel to eat, where there are people of different cultures, this may help these people to learn what person with a disability can do and, therefore, automatically people may change their mentality on persons with a disability and see them from another perspective. If something needs to be carrying out, the community needs to learn about the issues of Disability. In my opinion, this is doing Mr. Galea.
Even the fact that they send them to work in factories and schools, like this, he is showing the community that these persons with a disability have the potentiality to work. In school, children are watching and dealing with them, talking with them and from that young age, learning to live with them. They learn from an early age about persons with a disability and grow with a good attitude towards them.
“Dar il-Wens”, is one of the many nongovernmental organisation for persons with a disability in Malta. For sure, there are others organisations that are within the community working to ensure that persons with a disability are actively included and engaged in society. For example, the Living ability not disability group (L.A.N.D. Group), which are, the same persons with a disability that are running the service by empowering the young person’s to give them a hand. Even the “Support”, a branch in the Foundation For social Welfare (FSWS) works so much in the community to ensure an achievement in inclusion, in society.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, in the past years, in Malta, and even in other countries like Italy, worked hard to change the mentally of the society about persons with a disability. The disappointing fact was that many years had passed to change the mentality of society. It is an admirable thing that there are these nongovernmental organisations, like the “Dar il-Wens”, which is directing it Mr. Ronald Galea. Man like him make a better work, because he, himself has the experience of being a person with a disability and because of that he is more conscious of what types of difficulties a person with a disability may encounter.
In the present days, the community is working more than before to ensure that the persons with a disability are actively included and engaged in society.
