Miss Mary’s Rambling News
What wonderful weather we are having. I wish the whole winter would be
this way. However we have had one rough time but thankfully it only
lasted for a few hours and that was on Monday the second. We took our
Grandson R.J. to the bus station in Lexington that day.
On the way home we get to Campton hill on 191 and traffic was backed way
up and the road was so icy we thought we were going to slide into the
ditch. Bob finally got turned around and we went to Cathy’s for a drink
on the way there we met a salt truck on it’s way down 191. When we got
to Cathy’s a neighbor of ours was there. They could not get through
either.
Turns out there had been two separate one car accidents on that hill.
After a while we decided to try again. We had to drive fifteen or twenty
miles an hour all the way home. I bet it was more traffic than that road
had handled in many years. We were just thankful to make it home.
While we were in Mi. there was no snow and very little rain. We had the
pleasure of seeing many of our old time friends but there were many we
did not see and were hesitant to ask about as so many times the answer
was the same. Oh they passed away!
Our Christmas party was wonderful. My two Grandsons William and Eric,
sons of my daughter Geri who passed away last year were there with their
aunt Wendy whom they went to live with when their Mom died. They are
doing so very good. They are both in sports, band and acting. Their Aunt
is very proud of them and I know Geri is happy for them.
Wendy has truly become a member of our family. It would not feel right
to have a big family do without her in it. We still miss Geri so bad it
nearly kills us, But it is good to know we have Wendy in our lives.
I hope Glen Duff and his Band Members get well real soon. They were
supposed to play at the center on the tenth. but were all too sick to
show up.
I sure understand being too sick to do anything. I did not go any where
for one whole week except for the Catholic Church Women together Group
on Tuesday. It was because I had a tooth infection and my jaw ended up
being so swollen it looked like I had a soft ball in my mouth and my
right eye was swollen shut.
Going to the Church was worth getting out for. We did not have a huge
group, because of the weather I am sure. But we all brought a white
elephant from home and we had a new years gift exchange. It was lots of
fun. I gave the gift I got to my granddaughter Chandra and so did one of
the other ladies. She told me how proud this lady made her feel when she
gave her the little candy dish.
Chan is still so new at having her own home she does not have lots of
nick nacks and home decorations like we older people have. I told her
when summer gets here we will look for stuff like glasses and cups and
bowls, pots and pans ETC. For now she has enough to get her through. I
am so proud of Chandra. She told me she is so happy to be going to this
meeting as everyone treats her as one of the group. She said it is like
a big family and she needs that now that so much of her family is gone.
I agree with her.
We had a new gentleman at the Senior Center today. His name is Rick. He
did not tell me his last name but he did say his daughter works at the
court house. He seems to be a very nice man. He said he likes to play
rook so I invited him to get there early so he can get in the games. We
play Rook every day. So Rick don’t forget to return.
We had a full house today. That was really nice. It is so nice to be
able to walk from table to table and speak with friends that you only
see once or twice a week. It feels so good to walk up to a table and see
a person look up and their face lights up with a big smile just because
they see you.
On Friday Our cook Vera’s Granddaughter and her hubby (Fresh home from
Irag) brought their eight month old son in to visit his Great Grandma.
To say she is proud would be an understatement and with good reason. He
is beautiful with a sweet smile and shining eyes. I was so happy to
finally meet him and I was happy to be able to welcome his Daddy home
from Iraq.
As a member of the center I want to say thanks to another member for
bringing in a big bag of candy to share with everyone. She is always
bringing in some sort of snack. Thank you Ellen. You are appreciated.
Also thanks to all other members who bring things in from time to time.
It makes the center that much more fun.
By missing out on so many days I did not get to participate in the
wonderful things Dena planned for all of us. She is speaking about
hopeful, future trips and Bob and I are really hoping to get involved.
She has some great ideas.
It was really nice to see Ellis and Wanda Linkous at the center today.
They don’t make it out very often. Listen you two we would love it if
you came more often. There are lots of members who have not been in for
a while. We miss you.
My Grandson Aaron had a very bad car accident last week. He works 12
hour shifts and went to sleep on way home. He drove a small car and he
hit a pickup truck head on. Thank God no one was hurt. Except he has
extremely bruised knees. His car was totalled. He said God had to have
been watching over him. Authorities said they did not see how he even
survived much less no injuries. We’ve had many tragedies in our life but
we have had a wonderful miracle this time. Thank you God!
I’ve gotta get this sent in. I just hope it makes it in time. I usually
send this in on Monday. Sorry I am later than usual. Take care and may
God bless us all. Mary Peck – 668-7907
