Nigerian Security: “The Police” And Their Failure in Terms of Duty

NIGERIAN SECURITY: “THE POLICE” AND THEIR FAILURE IN TERMS OF DUTY.

Talking about security generally it is very good, great, interesting and reliable job. A very nice job that even big shots desire to be doing. The Nigerian security i.e. “The police” was established by people of dignity, great, aspiring and reliable who were the one that created this pertinent sector in every nation or society with the purpose or mission to protect lives and prosperities. Basically, starting from when Nigeria security was established till some years back, they have determinately delivering or exhibiting their duty of protection of lives and properties. And in fact, they were excellent in everything they do; always above the mark. Meanwhile, since few years back this particular sector “the police” have failed totally in their duty of lives’ protection and other vital perspectives. In deed, they are highly corrupted now. Though there are still very few once who still do their jobs well, but due to frustrations from both governments and their leaders they get somehow discouraged and lost their interest due to many of these corrupt practices. But in actual fact there is no problem without the source of the problem. The number one predicament is security and government is the number two problem that has made them all to be failing in discharge of their duty. During the training government however failed in providing all the necessary materials and allowance needed. In fact, you just need to visit the training ground of Nigeria security during recruitment. They always lack materials and even their allowances will not be paid till five months time or even at the end of the training. And the government expects the best from this security. No, it is absolutely not possible! They are also human beings but not animals. The worst part of all this is that their wages and salaries will not be given to them on time. Before they get their salaries at times it takes six months. How will you expect such security not to take bribe and at the same time deliver their duty excellently?

However, they also do experience terrible thing like lack of accommodation. Accommodation is seriously lacking in the Nigeria security sector. And due to this they found themselves doing things they ought not to have done many times. Upon all these, instead of government to impress the people, all what they could and have been offering them  is adding more fuel to the fire of security sector, in fact the boss-leaders are not helping matters at all. They also engage in stealing the money that belongs to the junior staff for special purpose on the personal needs. Fund that is meant for salaries, uniforms and boots will be embezzled by this so called security boss: Nigeria police leaders. When you see some police officers on duty, their uniforms would have been turned and faded. And some even wear bathroom sleepers on duty instead of boots. How will you expect such a security officer i.e. “a Nigeria police officer” to pursue a criminal on roads with bathroom sleepers? Definitely they cannot discharge their duty properly and must not be blamed for their failure rather the government should be blamed.

Having blamed the government, the Nigeria security should also be blamed for some intentional bad or corrupt practices in our society today. Their mission or purpose is to protect lives and properties. But today, they have failed woefully in discharging this particular one instead they now destroy lives and properties. Also, they were supposed to be very best friend to every citizen. Meanwhile their case is on the other way round. They are now absolute enemies of the citizens. They as well practice collection of bribe from private cars, jeeps, and mostly commercial drivers and conductors; claming to be checking vehicles’ license but in actual fact whether or not your license’ documents are complete or not you must give bribe but failure can result to a very bad story. They also beat mercilessly and kill innocent citizens like conductors and drivers over bribe. At times, during general checking of cars and jeeps and buses provided that some cash or money (dollars, ponds, Europe’s and naira) are discovered, this Nigeria security police could kill the person or people in the cars, jeeps and buses then lie to the journalists (News’ man) that they are robbers. In fact, this kind of incident has happened before through Nigeria security. Truth and fact! It has!!

Besides, the Nigeria security “the police” also engage in the act of raiding, arresting, killing and forcefully putting into prisons innocent citizens. Even they do replace these innocent souls with criminal cases and lie against them that they are actually the people who commit the crime. But in actual fact, they are not. They (the police) must have collected some money from the real criminals and release them. But later look for other innocent souls (citizens) to replace them with, too bad! Too bad!! Too bad!!!

Conclusively, I strongly believed that the Nigeria government has a major role to play in all these: by providing all the necessary things like materials, training allowances, wages and salaries as well as other pertinent things needed by all these officers. Police also should be able to be satisfied with things that have been provided for them. They must not rely their duty on bribery and corruption as well as any other corrupt practices. Monitoring department must be set up in every police station to be monitoring every activities they involve in, peradventure any officer is caught red handed. He or she should be seriously punished with prison judgment and hard labor. Also, that particular officer should be expelled out of the Nigeria security “the police” forever; and his or her remaining payments must not be paid. In fact, the committee for the monitoring department should introduce and pass into bill different laws that will curb the unwarranted situation. Provided that both the government and the Nigeria security can do all the above and effect them, I am very sure that every citizen will caution themselves and the rate of crime shall reduce greatly!
