Our Day Will Come

Nice guys finish last.  It’s a fact of life in today’s society.  Most people would agree with me when I say that it should be the other way around, but this is the way it is.  I consider myself to be a nice guy, and more than a few people would agree with me.  Like most nice guys, I question the reasons for our losing ways.  While I can’t explain it, I know that there needs be more people like us. 

Ask the typical girl or woman, because she’ll know the answer.  Would she rather have the guy who only picks her up in a bar for a one-night-stand, or the guy who cheats on her, or the guy who respects her?  Obvious answer.  Another question.  Who do we want running our major corporations, companies, government?  I was under the impression that people like the CEO of Enron were generally detested.  I’m not saying we need to be saints, I’m not saying we need to be perfect.  We just need to try.   

As a nice guy, I know how bad it sucks sometimes.  The girl always goes for the bad boy, the mean and ignorant guys get all the good breaks.  But I also know that the good guys can’t be tempted by the actions and results of others.  If all the good people in this world suddenly turned into carbon copies of the rest of society, imagine what life would be like.  Everyone would finish equally, in last.  Misery loves company, but a true “nice guy” is optimistic, knowing that someday things will change.  Someday, we’ll get the girl, the long end of the stick, the good breaks.  Someday.
