Our Disabled Voters
Hot News: technology is giving a boost to voters with disabilities.
Recently on the evening news it was reported that the month of January, as a test, that iPads will be handed to some Oregon voters to mark their ballots in a special election. The devices, using software that was created by Everyone Counts, will aid people with conditions such as arthritis or impaired vision. The one thing that the iPads cannot do is actually cast their votes on-line, however, they can fill out the ballots, which will then be printed out and mailed in or dropped off at election stations.
This is one huge step for the disabled to be able to have a voice on elections.
It is mandatory that all states have accessible equipment for voters with disabilities, however, each state has a different approval process for these new devices.
