Pas De Calais

This article is about the French region Pas-De-Calais.

Pas de Calais is a department of France which is surrounded by the Somme and Nord departments and some of north western part of Belgium.

Economy 

Pas de Calais is densely populated department but doesn’t have any large cities though it does have a lot of villages and small towns. One of its biggest cities is Calais followed by Boulogne-sur-Mer then by Arras its capital city. Its estimated population is 1.2 Million.

Geography

Pas de Calais is located in the Nord-Pas de Calais region.
That Region is surrounded by Belgium and the Picardie Region. Pas de Calais itself is a maritime county.

History

Pas de Calais is one of the original 83 departments formed during the French Revolution.Pas-De-Calais was home of some of the heaviest battles World War 1. Its population increased greatly even after a great loss in population. Pas-de-Calais was also the target of Operation Fortitude during World War Two, which was an Allied plan to deceive German Soldiers that D-Day was to occur here, rather than in Normandy.
