People Want What is Prohibited
by What is a major problem in our society?
Question: Where will you see a mountain of garbage?
Answer: In a place where there is a huge warning saying “Don’t throw your trashes here.”
Q: Where will you hear annoying constant whispers and murmurs?
A: In a library where “Silence Please” is implemented.
Q: Where will you park your car in a narrow street?
A: In front of a gate which says “Don’t block the driveway.”
Q: Does the warning “Cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health.” work?
A: Considering that cigarette-producing companies are remaining profitable, I guess the answer is NO.
Q: What do diabetics crave the most?
A: Sugars: desserts, candies, chocolates.
Most of the time, we, people, fail to participate, obey and act. People want what is prohibited, what is different. Of what use will these warnings contain if their meanings are subverted? A society may have good policies but people tend to ignore them. But blame isn’t just attributed to human acts, though it must be pointed that it is a great factor. As humans, we need to spark a difference. We need to let our good hearts work with our keen minds and strong bodies. These were not given to us just to exploit the resources that the Earth has to give us. Oh what a better society we will have if we observe good policies and warnings. We were used to such warnings and reminders, that they already became clichés for us. Now, we must put in mind that clichés didn’t become clichés just for nothing. And, clichés became clichés because they worked. (Nora Roberts) This may be easy to say but hard to do. What is important is the awareness of the initiative and the motivation to do what is right to be done.
If such phenomena will exist (that is, when humans follow the reverse of what policies and reminders say) and if situations become worse, maybe we’ll someday see reminders such us:
“Please observe noise in the library.”
“Please block the driveway.”
“Please throw your trash everywhere.”
Wouldn’t that further create riots and confusions? Don’t even let our imagination reach this situation. We must follow what our morals/good hearts have to dictate, accompanied by the gifts of intellect and reason God has given us. Follow the true meaning, please. Not the reverse one.
