Philippines: The Most Dangerous Country in The World for Media

Philippines Maguindanao incident has proved the world in obtaining the disputable distinction for being the most dangerous country for media workers.

Recently, 27 media workers were massacred on the same day and on the same incident in Maguindanao, this is the most unimaginable or shall I say the most bloodcurdling incident that happened in the history of media operatives. This occurrence beat the records of those countries that are at war like Afghanistan and Iraq. These media men were opt to cover/witness the filing of candidacy of Mangundadatu against the incumbent Ampatuwan, who is allegedly the mastermind of these terrible mass killings. According to the evidences, the group of politicians, journalist and other civilians were in a convoy when they were ambushed by armed men and took them to the remote area where the terrifying incident took place and buried in a mass grave. For the record, there were 57 bodies found that includes the 28 media men and more than 10 civilians who were unluckily passed the said area.

It is very distressing that press freedom were violated and harassed in a democratic country and worst it is because of political hunger, that they indulge themselves in political bloodbath wherein innocent people were harmed. Politicians were blinded with the powers they have that they forgot to be human, they’re suppose to serve and protect people NOT to create violence and to impair everyone’s right. As a Filipino, it calls my attention to be vigilant, justice must be served. If we will not act on this, I’m sure sooner or later Philippines will be the most dangerous place on earth.
