Trivia about the European nation.

I chose this country because my grandmother’s family came from Poland. I do not know much about this country and I was interested in learning about a part of my heritage. I hope you enjoy my report and learn about a country that has been around for centuries.

Here are some facts about Poland. The capital of Poland is Warsaw. The population of Poland is 38,518,241.The name of the monetary unit is called Zloty. The major language they speak is Polish. The major religion of the people of Poland is Roman Catholic. There are other religions in Poland such as Judaism and Orthodox Christians.

There is a lot of agriculture in Poland. Some agriculture is potatoes, fruits, vegetables and wheat. They also raise chickens for poultry and eggs. A main source of meat is pork. They also have their own dairy for their people.

Poland has some industry. They have machine building that uses iron and steel. Coal mining, chemical developing, ship building, food processing, glass making, beverages and textiles are some more important industries of Poland.

Poland also has natural resources. Some natural resources are coal, sulfur, copper, natural gas, silver, lead, salt, and amber.

The leaders of Poland today are Lech Kaczynski, who is the President of Poland and Jaroslaw Kaczynk, who is the Prime Minister of Poland. Poland’s form of government is Democratic Republic. Poland is part of the European Union, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (a.k.a. NATO) and the Organization of Economic Co-Operation and Development (a.k.a. OECD).

There are some different physical features of Poland. The country is mostly made up of plains. There are some areas that are mountains and rivers. Lakes and forests also exist in Poland.

There are many plants and animals that are native to Poland. Some of these animals are chamois, lynx, wildcat, elk, boar, and deer. Also, there is a rare breed of pony. Some of the plants found there are the asparagus plant and the strawberry plant. There are 2,250 species of seed plants. There are also 630 types of moss, 200 kinds of liverworts, 1,200 types of lichens, and 1,500 species of fungi.

Some of Poland’s national holidays include New Year’s Day, Independence Day and Passing of Poland’s First Constitution Day. New Year’s Day is celebrated on January 1st with fireworks. Independence Day is an annual celebration for Poland, which takes place on November 11th. On May 3rd Passing of Poland’s First Constitution is remembered.

Some foods that are used daily in Poland are apples, plums and pears. Some common everyday beverages are beer, coffee and tea.

    I have Polish ancestry on both sides. Mom was a Kiwolski (or however it is spelled). One source indicated the Macinta surname as being part of Polish Protestant Nobility (cool!)

    I dig many Polish dishes, and can polish them off (a little play on the spelling there),

    Great article,I would like to add couple facts about Poland.
    Well known Noblist on the field of nuclear sience, Marie Curie – Sklodowska has been of Polish origin. She discover Polon, Radon which now occuopy Mendeleiev Tablet. Kazimierz Pulaski, Polish noble, and freedom fighter, emigrate to United States and was creator of U.S. Cavalery, and give his life in batlle by Savannah.
    That’s only few facts about Poland, which is my birth country, now United States Citizen.
