Politically Correct: Also Known as Core-Wrecked
*PC can S my V! Yeah, I said it.
- “Merry Christmas!”
- “I’m Jewish, asshole.”
Nowadays, the only holiday greeting we are allowed to say without getting somebody offended is ‘Happy Holidays’. What ever happened to the good ole’ days? You know, the days where sending out holiday spirit was simply wholesome and exciting, and people responded with a smile and an equally jolly response. Political correctness is what happened; and its infiltration and control of language is incorrect! The idea of political correctness (PC) came to rise in the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s when people began looking for a way to tone down the ‘harshness’ and ‘prejudice’ in the spoken language via the use of euphemisms and alternative terms such as replacing the term ‘black’ with ‘African American’ and ‘retard’ with ‘mentally disabled’. PC is also the reason that there are so many gender-neutral names now, such as fire-fighter instead of fireman (and a million other terms that end with –man/men) and, now, on passport applications a child’s mother and father will now be signing their name under the titles “parent 1” and “parent 2”.
The intention of implanting a politically correct way of communicating was to mediate and ‘cure’ real or supposed discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, nationality, disability or any other criteria that could offend a particular group. Basically, drop a dictionary on the ground and I guarantee you that the first (any) word that your eyes glance over when you pick it up is argued as politically incorrect by someone, somewhere.
The pussification of the world is gently tended to by the ‘protection’ of PC. Politically correct language is nothing more than an instigator and a method used to suppress our right to free speech – adding fuel to the very fire it is said to be putting out. Col. Nathan R. Jessep says it best in “A Few Good Men,’’ to Lt. Daniel Kaffee when he bursts out in anger and yells “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!” The truth hurts, so we lie; we use PC as a way to dance around the truth – well, no, scratch that – PC allows us to think whatever we want to think and say what we want to say as long as we do not actually say what we want to say because if we say what we mean to say, how we want/mean to say it, then other people will understand what it is that is being said and someone is bound to be offended! Wait, what? Well, it makes sense if you don’t think about it.

My little girl went to a real PC kindergarten. We were not allowed to say “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” , They called it a Holiday tress but spent an entire week celebrating Kwanza…

We\’ve gone way to far to one side with regards to PC. Just say what you mean — everything doesn\’t need to be sugarcoated.

On the one hand, I like “happy holidays” because its more inclusive, and I and most of my friends aren’t christians.
On the other, I do agree that people are overly sensitive and that ignoring history is a damned good way of making sure it repeats itself. It’s better to teach WHY something is offensive than to completely ignore it! And no matter how hard we run, we simply cannot outrun a sexist, racist past. Thats how it was. It’d be like saying romans didn’t have slaves from all over the empire.
But where can we draw the line? When PC started up, it WAS needed. Even in the 70’s and 80’s there were ads saying “a woman’s place is in the kitchen” and “men are better than women” (no kidding, you can look it up) We are fighting a battle against societal norms that have existed for thousands of years – people ARE racist and sexist (all people, by nature, have xenophobia). So PC is needed – but should be contained and not blasted like a cannon at every minor generally inconsequential thing, and it should never keep us from recognizing where we came from.
