Pound Your War Drums Until You Drown Out The Idiocy

Occupy DC.

I was at Occupy DC on October sixth, with high hopes laid shattered at my feet in wax from the candle light vigil. I sat cross-legged on the pavement, unintentionally posing for photgraphers, snapping photos of my angry and confused face behind the flickering and shadowing candle light. I came into it expecting answers and left disappointed. It’s taken these five days since, to realize that change is in my hands, and your hands.

“Stop war! Stop greed! Stop the failing economy!” This is the voice of Occupy DC. I ask, “How?”

They have a vision with no idea of what foot to step with first, and what direction to set it in. Every vision needs a plan to achieve that vision. It does little good to make public, already public problems. It’s just an inconvenience.

When I got there Thursday afternoon, I heard the distinct sound of the pounding of war drums and saw hippies dancing to the beat in tye-dye swirls. I saw an old man passing around a jug of Moon Shine. I saw Afghan scarves for sell. I walked to the front to hear what was being said. They were holding a democratic system of proposals to decide where the protestors should sleep. This went on for two and a half hours. I thought to myself, Why does it take so long to decide something so simple, and why are people so afraid of being arrested for fighting for something they believe in? I suddenly realized why nothing ever gets done in this country. Democracy is failing. Or is the general population devolving in the areas of intellect? The answer is neither of those. Those with the intellect and work ethic, are at work, making a better life for themselves and their family and not wasting time on a ‘fetal’ movement.

I’ve come to terms with my anger towards the inability of these protestors to create change. It takes those that are already working their asses off, those who have a college education with some depth to it, those with ideas to change this world. And they can’t give up. We need a plan. This country is going to collapse after the 2012 elections and we need to be ready. After all, the future is in our hands, not jobless hippies dancing to war drums or the one percent sipping lattees on wall street. Nobody knows how to work as hard as we do, now is the time to turn our efforts to a real movement.
