Hi/Hello/Good Morning/Good Afternoon
Researching and comparing the statistics of Ghana (LEDC) and Ireland (MEDC)
Gap between two countries is vast
Ireland’s population – approximately 1/6 of Ghana’s
Ghana literacy rate – 57.9% compared to Ireland’s 99%
Means of education are poor in Ghana whereas Ireland has a well-functioning system
Ghana – problems in the equal treatment of both sexes. We know because:
Women Literacy Rate (Ghana) – 49.8%
Men Literacy Rate (Ghana) – 66.4%
Ireland has 99% for both men and women
HEALTH CONDITIONS
Life expectancy rate in Ireland – 78.07 years
Life expectancy rate in Ghana – 59.49 years
This ensures us of a generally more content population in Ireland
Infant mortality rate in Ireland is less than one-tenth of that in Ghana
Ireland – 5.14 deaths in 1000 live births
Ghana – 52.31 deaths in 1000 live births
Probably due to the poor education levels in Ghana
HIV AIDS Positive
Ireland – 0.0673%
Ghana – 0.1283%
ECONOMIES
Ghana economy dependant on agriculture
Ireland economy dependant on trade
Foreign debt
Ireland – US$1.841 trillion
Ghana – US$4.891 billion
Gross national product
Ireland – US$40,232 per capita
Ghana – US$2,700 per capita
The difference is probably due to how the literacy rates are so different. Indirectly that affects the other things and may cause larger problems.
Good morning everyone. We have been researching on LEDC and MEDC countries lately. Astrid/Suparna and I decided to research on Ghana, the LEDC, and Ireland, the MEDC). Ghana lies on the coast of Western Africa and is bordered by Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire whereas Ireland is bordered by Britain. The two countries are very different in terms of economy and geography. Ireland is generally a more advanced country and in terms of human development, it has been placed at the first position by the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme). On the other hand, Ghana is still quite backward, in spite of being one of the most stable African nations. Today, we’re going to be discussing the major differences between the two countries.
As you can see on this table, the population of Ghana is 23,382,848, which is approximately six times that of Ireland’s 4,156,119. However, this does not really affect why the countries are so different because their areas are also very different. Ghana’s land covers 230,940 square kilometers whereas Ireland covers about 68,890 square kilometers of land.
