Reporters Undercover: Worth The Risk?
Would you risk everything for a story you thought was important?
Long ago, the answer I would have given to this question personally, is no. However, my views have since changed. I believe that indeed there are some stories worth risking everything possible for. Sometimes, to make a change to some area of society, a stand must be taken.
I would however take precautions if I ever were to go undercover for a story. I would inform law enforcement and family, for safety reasons obviously. If law enforcement has your back, @ least you aren’t going in helpless.
Too many reporters have lost their lives for their work, in fact I suspect it happens more often than people think. I have a heart for people in journalism who have the courage of their convictions, who will stand up for important things.
I would say, be careful, my journalist friends, people do care about you.
Never let down your guard.

while it is quite easy to say “yes” or “no” to some questions: I have come to realize that you never know exactly what you will do, until said time….good article

Good article, intriguing question. This debate has been in the news lately as journalists have been kidnapped and some killed by terrorist groups. There were also a few deaths among those covering the recent uprisings in the middle east. The journalists who take the biggest risk (IMO) are those embedded with the soldiers in an active battle zone. A couple of reasons why I don’t think this is a good idea: 1 – it is an extra risk to the soldiers who have to protect a civilian; and 2 – Geraldo Rivera.
