Role Models
Tyler Durden is better than Batman or Superman.
Awhile ago a friend of mine posted a question to the closed email list of our campus fraternity. ‘In 100 words or less, why is Batman better than Superman?’
Here is my answer: ‘Question five – (41 words) Tyler Durden is better than Batman OR Superman. This society doesn’t need more superheroes, this society doesn’t even know how to learn from its real heroes – what we need is a superanarchist messiah liberator to be our children’s role model now.’
I can’t help but wonder, often, as I interact with things that resemble sad sheep rather than human beings – what can we do to fix america’s public school system? What can we do to provide actual education to an entire generation that is being taught (perhaps accidentally, perhaps as victim of a conspiracy) nothing other than how to be vapid and hollow and obedient?
Make little kids watch ‘Fight Club’. Telling them to read the book by Chuck Palahniuk is even better, but unfortunately telling kids to read books these days is likely a waste of time.
Before it gets too late, we need to explain to little kids what credit cards are. “See these? Your parents have them. They use them instead of money. Everyone thought this would be really convenient, but then they started doing it too much, and it ruins their lives. It’s like drinking too much. If mommy uses her credit card too much, soon she’ll forget about you, or she’ll get really sad and want to die all the time. Almost everyone is addicted now and doesn’t know how to stop. You should help your mommy and daddy by getting their credit cards when they’re not looking, and cutting them up and throwing them away. You know your parents would help you the same way if you started smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol.”
