September 11th’s Effects on American Society
How did the September 11th tragedy impact American society?
The patriotism Americans hold for their country is very great. In fact, it’s so great that thousands have dedicated their lives to defending it. Shortly after the September 11th tragedy, many troops were sent to Afghanistan to hunt down and capture the Afghanistan leader who imposed the attack on America. Other soldiers were sent to Iraq and additional parts of the Middle East for reasons unknown to the general public. It’s been seven years and there has still been no capture of the Afghanistan leader, only speculation of his whereabouts. Thousands of American soldiers and innocent Iraq citizens have lost their lives, the body count increasing with each passing day. Families have continued to be torn apart as more and more soldiers are being deported. Military recruiters are having a drought of enlistments, because just as soon as a young citizen joins, he’s shipped overseas. The ultimate outcome of slow enlistment is the reinstatement of the draft, which many Americans don’t want to happen.
The war in Iraq is not only taking men and women from their loved ones, but it’s also raising gas prices across the nation. The increased gas prices are making it progressively more difficult for Americans to balance their daily lives. The more money that goes into their vehicles, the less money goes to other necessities such as groceries, or an important bill. The Middle East is a gold mine for oil, and the longer they remain our enemy the longer gas prices will remain high.
The effects of the September 11th attack carried numerous consequences. America’s economy is gradually getting worse. More of our nation’s dollars are going towards the Middle East rather than into helping out here at home. Oil prices drastically elevate, slowly fall, then go right back up. Our soldiers remain overseas, still for many underlying and unknown reasons. Looking back on the event, no one could have ever predicted that years later, what seemed to at first be a dent in our nation’s progress would create such a massive wreck. The United States of America will one day discover the things that are not working, and correct them to rebuild more stability for its people, and the nation as a whole.
