Shocking: 30 People with Mental Problems, Slaves in Factories in China
Chinese authorities said Wednesday they had rescued 30 people suffering from mental illness operated in conditions of slavery in brick factories in the center of the country.
Official media reports that some of them have been exploited for over seven years, without ever paid in Henan province, where heheld a similar scandal in 2007.
“These 30 people are mentally disabled and were brought fromtheir home towns to be obliged to work” in the brick factory, toldAFP a spokesman poiliĊ£iei Zhang.
He said that the authorities have saved these people on Sunday and are in the process to locate their families. But some of these people are unable to inform the investigators that are places of origin.
Eight brick factory owners were arrested, police said. A supervisorin charge of whipping people with disabilities was 14 years, said a policeman.
Reflecting the Chinese economic miracle cloud, scandals onworkers’ rights violations, ordering or exploitation of minors to workfor people with disabilities are not rare in China.
The discovery in 2007 of hundreds of adults and dozens of minorexploited as slaves in brick factories and mines in Shanxi andHenan provinces triggered a worldwide scandal.

The sad part is they wont be able to find all of the people who are being done this way. The other thing is that China is not the only country where this kind of labor is done.
