Social Conscience
In the world, we find a lot of unsatisfied needs, but a lot of people are working to help others…
The Third World
All countries have needs, but countries of the third world have a lot of unsatisfied needs. Usually, the governments of these countries don’t satisfy inhabitants needs. That is why, it appears the Voluntary Sector that it is also called Third Sector. There are other two sectors that contribute in economy of the countries. They are the Private Sector and the Public one.
The Private Sector is formed by the industries and services that are owned and run by private companies and not by the government. But, sometimes, market forces cause social exclusion. So, usually, some people can’t get a dignified job and they suffer the effects of a combination of such as unemployment, crime and bad housing and have very little chance of being able to improve their lives.
The Public Sector is formed by the government and the public organizations. This sector ought to provide education, security and so on. But, sometimes this sector don’t achieve the public purposes.
As the result of government careless and its lack of protection to the population, it must appear a Third Sector that satisfies population needs.
The Third Sector
The Third Sector is formed by non profit organizations. A lot of volunteers work in these organizations all around the world.
In Argentina, for example, there are a lot of voluntary organizations which help people with problems. These private organizations improve bad social conditions and help people who are poor, have family problems, are unable to find a job, etc. For instance, Fundación Par is an argentine non-profit organization that helps disable people to find a job. Besides, we can find a lot of voluntary organizations that make meals and give them to poor people.
Usually, we listen that capitalism encourages competition and individualism. But, we can see non profit organizations everywhere. Besides, we can see that a lot of people like doing social work. Now, can we say that we live in an individualistic society?
Perhaps, my own answer to this question is different from yours. But I think, it is important that we ask ourselves about this subject and we decide how we are going to live our lives…
