Society is Just Not as Friendly Anymore

Whats happening in our world? Why aren’t people as friendly as they used to be.

I don’t know about you, but I feel social friendliness is becoming a thing of the past.  In my opinion people are just not as caring as they used to be say 20 years or so ago.

Today, when I go to ask someone in the street a question such as:

Where is the nearest toilet? Or where can I find the nearest department store?,   Quite often I just get given the cold shoulder or people just won’t answer me.  I spend quite a lot of my time catching public transport and something that really gets to me about public transport is the bus drivers

You see, I have the disability cerebral palsy.  This is a disability which affects my muscles and the way they function to the upper and lower parts of my body.  Although my disability is not always that noticeable, bus drivers on the public transport system often decide to take off before I am seated on the bus.  This often results in me stumbling or even falling over whilst I am trying to find a seat.

I am only 20, so this does not have a major effect on me, but who I really feel sorry for is the elderly citizens of our world.  One day I was sitting on the bus, minding my own business, when an elderly lady came on.  At that time, I was situated towards the back of the bus, and because of peak hour, the bus at that time was pretty full, to the point that there were no vacant seats left.

How disgusted I felt when not one person on that bus decided to get off out of their seats as she walked passed to let the elderly passenger sit down, until the bus driver had said something.  At least the bus driver had guts, I thought to myself.

What is happening to the friendly people of our world?  Is there any left?

I absolutely understand what you mean. Even the daily workers at the grocery store will not crack a smile. It’s scary how everyone is so concerned with their own problems
they won’t even think to glance at the people that need help the most. I sometimes get the title of being “too nice”. Maybe if there were a few people described as “too-nice”, they would make up for the people who don’t care.
Today actually I recieved a hug from a stranger and I was told to pass it on. I immediately dismissed the idea but after reading this I’m thinking of doing it.
