Society: My World Perspective

This is my own perspective on how I view society.

In our society we don’t create things with a concrete solution instead we implement quick fixes or ways to isolate our problem so it does spill into other thing. Just like the FDA who creates medicine that either minimizes symptoms of a disease or disorder or prevents the spread or advancements but seem to put little effort in finding a cure (or solution). This leads me to believe that ultimately people are good but that they also have a selfish side that constantly battle with one and another. This is illustrated continuously in television shows and cartoons with the little devil and angel sitting on a characters shoulders advising them to do the wrong or right thing.  When we give into our bad side and create a crime, immoral act, or a misdeed all derives from the selfishness within us.  I really want you to take a moment and think about this, and I will even offer you some examples.

When you hit, scratch or dent a parked car. What is the ideal thing to do? Accordingly to the driver’s education manuals and the golden rule, do onto others as you would want them to do onto you, you should leave a note on that individual’s car with insurance info and a contact number. The selfish thing to do would be to take off with no note and no attempt to contact anyone. My mom would consider this smart but in reality it is driven by selfishness. The reason I say this is because the thought behind this is” I don’t want my insurance to go up, I don’t want to get a ticket or I don’t want to pay for this person’s repairs, all concerns about yourself. You are not worried about the damage you have caused to the other person’s car and how they will be left to cover the cost.

If we look at the US as a whole, we are a capitalist nation. Business rules and even corporations look at how they can benefit themselves while still persuading customers that we benefit even by the slightest bit. Let’s look at credit card companies. These companies send out these wonderful advertisements claiming that you have been specially selected or you qualify for this great offer that will allow you to have a credit limit of $500.00 through $5,000 but in fine print the credit card company has an APR of 22.00% and an annual fee of $75.00. Cash advance stores are another good example. They will offer you $200.00 and in return they require 20% extra back as a fee plus an extra dollar for the convenience they afford you.
