Sovereign Citizens
"Sovereign Citizens" do not believe in American laws. They do not believe in paying taxes and they have a few other very odd ideas. They believe they are free to take ownership of any bank owned properties. They make out bogus quickclaim deeds and file them with clerks of the court and think they are home free. They file bogus charges against police departments and government officials. In general they stir up all the trouble possible. But one group got it’s come uppance last week in Lithonia.
Sovereign Citizens
When a new family moved into a house in South DeKalb county where everybody knows everybody, neighbors were a little taken aback when they never saw the new occupants. Helen Goddard said she never saw the residents until she looked out her window and saw them being led away in handcuffs. Prosecutors say they are a new breed to this part of the country who call themselves “sovereign citizens” and believe they do not have to pay taxes or obey the law. They believe themselves free birds and say among other oddities, that banks can not own land and homes held by the bank are free to anyone who wants them. So “sovereign citizens” move in and take ownership.
According to prosecutes the suspects were all born in the United States but they create their own drivers license and have multiple identities. The FBI says the group has been around for years and have ties to the Nuwaubians, a black supremacist group that originated in Augusta. At least 19 properties have been taken over by “sovereign citizens” in DeKalb, Gwinnett, Fulton, Henry Spalding, Richmond and Newton counties, all in Georgia. The properties include mansions, homes and a shopping center in Buckhead valued at 13 million dollars.
It’s a mystery to most people how they can walk right in and take procession of someone’s property. DeKalb county deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney John Melvin said, “It’s a different animal than squatters. They show bogus quitclaim deeds, call the locksmith and move in. For them, it’s that easy.” The “sovereign citizens” post phony deeds on the windows and persuade the electric and water companies to turn on the utilities. It was through a raided house that authorities found the thieves central location in Lithonia. Six suspects have been charged so far with violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Organizations Act. Warrant are out for five other suspects.
The strange thing is that banks were unaware that anyone had confiscated the houses. John H. Moore, a Cob county real estate attorney said, ” Banks have so many foreclosed properties it’s hard to keep track of them.” The suspects had used bogus deeds and filed them with the clerks of the court throughout North Georgia. Most of the deeds had the price listed as 21 silver dollars, the others were listed at zero dollars.
Minnie Rucker of the DeKalb Superior court said, “Anyone can type up a quitclaim deed, have it notarized and file it with the local clerk of the court. All that’s required is a small fee and a drivers license.” The “sovereign citizens” might not believe in the U.S, taxes or our system of justice, but I do not doubt that each one of them called a lawyer when they were arrested.

Not all sovereign citizens are bad. Back in the day when you were granted inalienable rights by the Constitution people were in fact sovereign. When the 14th amendment came along and stripped people of that by granting them mere privileges and immunities is when the terms State Citizen And Federal citizen rose. You will notice the difference in the spelling of citizen as one is capitalized and one is not due to legal matters. Capitalized letters in Constitutional matters makes them sovereign whilst lower case doesn’t. I know several sovereigns and none fall under your diagnosis, sure there may be a few bad eggs, but its like that every where including the government.
P.S. income tax is unconstitutional and has been stricken down multiple times. The only reason it still stands is because you are being taxed by the IRS which is not part of the government and so the court decisions hold no sway.

@D51208, this is not Deutchland. That Constitution was intended inside the private border of intellectuals and not the prison system as such that was Georgia for which it was considered as 13th state, the original prison borderline for lawless. At first, it WAS lawless whites people, who were sent there and set up business enterprise.
When Georgia was filled up in its quotas, British sent Aussies people to Australia.
Constitutionally speaking, Georgia is one of the last states to speak up for its lame duck campaign and rights, esp. Atlanta city itself. In contrast to your shallow thinkings, not many southern countries like to live in corrupt sectors known as CITIES.

if you don’t beleive in the laws.. protest them!
if you don’t beleive in taxes, work at a minimum wage job..
there are always ways around things.. these folks have just found one.. but they always live in fear.

This is a new concept for me. So many groups of people believe they owe nothing to anyone, yet are willing to receive the benefits of the society they live in. A fascinating article, Ruby.

Every body is not bad. But the situation and conditions made them to do bad things

This is something new for me too. Back here, they’re what you called informal settlers. Wow they must really be quite good to pull that stuff…but not for long though.

It’s a shame that the “sacred” term sovereignty had been corrupted in such a barbaric manner. A valuable write.

I know it is criminal but you do have to give these people marks for imagination. I don’t know how they think they can get away with doing things like this. A really good read.

This is wild! It is amazing that they were able to pull this off so many times before getting caught. I have to say, some of my sympathy is with them due to the state of our government these day’s.

Eldridge, besides your obvious lack of intelligence in writing and understanding, you need to read up on history. But sure keep baffling me with your attempted insults that make me laugh. Besides the “prison State” that Georgia was it was also the home to several Indian tribes who were more sophisticated than what appears to be your intelligence. EX: the Cherokees
