This is a compare/contrast between Sparta and Athens.

Sparta and Athens

Sparta and Athens are very similar in some ways but in others they are like fire and ice. In Athens babies were cleaned off with water and oil when it was just born, In Sparta they put their babies in a giant bowl of wine and held under their for a “certain amount of time,” and then taken out and if it is still alive it is a healthy baby.

Religion was a very important thing in both cities, but what they believed was very different. Orthodox was the way in Athens they believed by its adherents to be the very same Church established by Christ and his Apostles. On the other hand in Sparta polytheism was the to go believing that the Spartan peoples all recognized the 13 major Gods: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Ares, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Athena, Hermes, Demeter, and Hestia, though various lesser gods were also worshipped.

Sports were always useful in both cities in both cities they played naked. In Athens and Sparta they played many different and dangerous sports such as boxing, equestrian events, chariot racing, riding, pankration, penthalon, discus, javelin, jump, jump, running, and wrestling.
