The Essay

The essay is important for the world today. The essay is made to change things. The essay helps the author get his point of view out to the audience. The essay was said as important by both Edward Tufte and Robert J. Tiess. According to Edward Tufte and Robert J. Tiess, essays are relevant to today’s society because they help people further communicate with each other in ways of technology to better man kind.

According to Edward Tufte “The point of the essay is to change things.” The essay can change people’s opinions in the way of letting them know other peoples points of view. They would know that what they think isn’t the only idea that there is. The essay can also change technological disadvantages in the way that everyone can be informed of new inventions and such. It also helps so that people who can at least get the news paper can read about different advances in science.

According to Robert J. Tiess “An essay is an analytical, interpretive, or occasionally informal literary composition….. For advancing an authors thesis or point of view to his or her audience.” The essay helps get the authors opinion out in the way of advancing ideas on life or society. So that people can give their opinions on the topic to others. The essay can also help get the opinion out because as stated, “… the essay is a tree today in the forest of literature.” Which means with one thesis in an essay the author could be shown as a farmer who is planting a tree, the foundation to new ideas on the topic.

In a way the opinions of Edward Tufte and Robert J. Tiess are similar and different. They are alike because how Edward Tufte says “The point of the essay is to change things.” Robert J. Tiess’s thought also changes things because he is letting people know other opinions so they can grow from that. They are also different because Edward Tufte says the point is to change things, it is in a way of demanding. Robert J. Tiess just lets the reader know his own opinion, and it grows a tree of thoughts with it. Edward Tufte idea is on the spot, wile Robert J. Tiess idea needs time to grow.

 The essay is relevant to today’s society because it starts a tree of different thoughts and starts to change things. The thoughts grow into bigger thoughts and can end up creating things. Or the thoughts could end up as being a cure to papa Loma virus or HIV. But to start the tree of thoughts, there must be an author. An author who knows how to write an essay. That is why an essay and knowing how to write one is important to today’s society.
