The Kite Flying Festival Celebrated in India
This will give an idea about one of the most important festivals of India that is “kite flying day”. It is commonly known as “makar-sankranti” all over India. This festival is celebrated by all the communities of India- Hindus, Muslims and even Christan. Thus this festival is not only limited to India but also to China, Japan, Pakistan and Thailand.
The word “kite flying” brings about a smile on everyone`s face of every age. It is a symbol of freedom, unity and many other things. Especially in India, january 14 is celebrated as kite flying day.
Kite flying in China
It is however the oldest form of air craft. It was originated in China about 3000 years ago. During the Han dynasty, the Chinese military attached bamboo pipes with kites. The passing of air through the stick made a whistling sound which caused enemy troops to panic and flee.
Definition: Kite
The name “kite” comes from the graceful and soaring bird kite. A kite is made up of many different materials like paper, light wood, leaves cloth and other lighter materials such as plastics, nylon,etc. Bamboo, light wood, alluminium and other thing are used to make frames. Cotton threads are used to make the string of the line.

It is really interesting to know how the kites fly. The force of the wind and gravity keep the kite in the air. A kite must be flown in such a way that its angles are against the wind. This angle is called the angle of attack. It provides maximum lift to overcome the gravity.

Most popularly the kites are known for recreational purposes. However, they are also used for scientific research and military purposes. Recently there is a revival of kites festivals all over. one can see fascinating designs of colorful kites of various shapes and sizes during festival all over during festival. China, Japan, India, Pakistan, and Thailand have such festivals. They are becoming popular even in western countries. They are innovations in kite designs like box kite, dragon kite, etc.

In India kite flying is truly a sport of poor. One doesn’t have to depend upon any special sports complex or team to enjoy it. Like the free flight of ones imagination, dreams and ambitions, the kite flying gives a release to instinctive desire to fly high in the sky…….
