The Twentieth Century is an Age of Greed
Yes; in most ways than not, I would agree with the above statement. It is not to say that people of earlier ages were not greedy, because they were. But the number of people consumed by this disease is many times more in this century. We have many more opportunities to feed our greed on..

The Twentieth Century is an Age of Greed. Do You Agree?
Yes; in most ways than not, I would agree with the above statement. It is not to say that people of earlier ages were not given to greed. They were. But the number of people consumed by this disease is many times more in this century. We have many more opportunities to feed our greed on.

The Consumer Goods
See the amount of the consumer goods available nowadays. How many of these can be genuinely said to benefit the user, or at the least satisfy him? Precious few, I would think. All too often we read in the newspapers and consumer magazines about the underhand tactics used by giant corporations to sell their products. We hear about the inclusion of poisonous materials in foodstuff. There are also innumerable amount of products that are shoddily made, yet passed off as up-to-standard products.

Great social analysis Mr Ghaz. Yes, I agree the 20th century was an age of greed. The two World Wars happened in that century after all.

It seems that you are spot on – greed it is, the prime motivator of our age.

Excellent post. I am in total agreement with your title. We have been here before, “The Jazz Age,” where there was first folly and then the “fall.”

A great and thought provoking article. I don’t think we will ever lessen our greedy tendencies, but thinking about those much worse off than ourselves helps a little.

Another excellent article Mr.G. However, I feel that a certain level of greed is necessary and good for commerce and the general well being of the human race. But greed for power is the worst kind, for it is the kind which provokes enmity and wars.

I’m sorry, but the twist you take on Drugs and Greed is incorrect, but the concept is correct. People do not get addicted because their dealers are pushing on them: people get addicted to drugs when stuck in stressful life situations, and the drug acts as a form of escape or way to lessen their stress. THIS stress is brought about by overly selfish corporations who make millions in profits but pay their employees pittances. This is why people then get stressed as the bills mount, and at this point in time do people with access to drugs/alcohol use them.
The people demand, and the drug dealers provide. I am of course talking about all drugs EXCEPT the three dont’s; crack, heroin and meth. These drugs are pushed on people expressively for their addictive characteristics, yes, but then again…if the would-be addicts were content in their lives they would not have got hooked on these drugs.
I just found your paragraph to be very misinformed, if well intended, and you should look towards improving your knowledge of how humans work, and how greed works, and balance that instead of just claiming everyone is greedy and writing with the intent of having people agree with you. Why are you not contributing towards actually helping people understand THE WHYS of what is going on? Maybe then we can make better and more informed choices. Maybe then we can improve the human condition?

When is enough enough? Have corporations put profits so far ahead of ethics that human rights and the environment is merely an after-though in a board meeting? I’ve looked around and I don’t see a center anymore. The middle class is failing, the political center is gone, and religious moderates are allowing themselves to be out-voiced by the extreme minority. That’s where we are right now. We have to go to a model of global sustainability, political balance, religious balance.
We saw the failing of communism, and now we are gloriously seeing the failing of capitalism, the only thing that seems to stay the same is that of constant change.
What do we do?
Revolution.
