Throw Away Cultures
Cultures face new challenges.
Clinton spoke about the greed of the wealthier nations and still the Darfour is going on with the same nation he represented ignoring the situation there. We are taught to respect the rights of nationhood and yet we must witness how the nations that set examples for us are doing their best to undermine peace and development of poorer nations in the name of acquiring more wealth. There are those stark contrasts of wealth just a hint away from poorer neighborhoods and cities where children are implicated in hate crimes because crime has become their voice of expression.
A child spoke out in front of a panel of international representatives and mentioned how she will be facing challenges her parents never had to endure. One can see that the global warming predictions of the early seventies, thought of as incredible exaggerations, are finally coming to light. There are irreversible changes taking place and still the main preoccupation of this country seems to be in propping up gas guzzling auto companies in the name of continued profits, primarily for them.
This person is happy to use public transport and yet has the ability to drive a car for himself. The city’s air has become dirtier over recent years and the likelihood of worsening respiratory ailments in dense urban centers increases over the years while more and more children are becoming disillusioned with the academic system that is not giving children a fair access to employment opportunities.Working for a greener future is just getting off the ground but one would like to see more recycling and less waste instead of seeing grocery chains printing their names on store plastic bags in the name of pushing advertisement.
People are employing themselves to pick up plastic bottles from the streets and return them for a few cents while the old bottle companies are more worried about what their new beverage logo will look like. There is an increasing amount of paper flying in the wind and few people who will bother to pick up the debris and place it in a waste bin. The garbage is supposed to be separated into plastics and paper categories and yet it all gets mixed in the garbage trucks that come along for waste removal.
I would like to see a smarter waste removal and treatment program put into effect. Governments should continue to penalize industries that do not comply instead of accepting bribaries from industries in return for votes. I wonder if efficient changes will occur in my lifetime or whether it will be more practical to set up a colony on Mars instead!
