True Equality for All

Non-stop on the news and in life we get subjected to anti-human views. “Stop foreigners getting British jobs” “He can”t be an engineer, he’s gay’. We are all the same species. Lets all stand up for equality… True equality.

It seems we can’t have a conversation anymore without somebody mentioning something about migrant workers, black people or homosexuals. It is usually not in a favorable light. Most people just accept little things and don’t stand up. This has to change. No matter how small an insult or generalization we must say something immediately.

Think about the Polish workers that get squandered at any party where they are not present. All you hear is ‘Them Poles come over here and take our jobs’… Sorry, how the hell are they your jobs. Just because you were born in England doesn’t give you rights to all the jobs. If you don’t like it, go to another country and get a job there. I cannot get my head around any immigration laws. If you are born in a country you do not own it or have any more right to it than anyone else. Its madness.

To quote Jimmy Carr ‘A polish man enters the country, doesn’t know anyone and cant speak the language, and he takes your job on his very first day? Your Shit’ It seems to me that the polish workers are great for this country, the vast majority of them are hard, honest workers. Give me a Polish plumber over a London geezer any day. At least my house wont get robbed.

Recently I was speaking to my Father about a homosexual man at his work. He said that he is very quiet and unassuming but nobody talks to him because they are homophobic. My Dad heard this at work from a supervisor.

‘He shouldn’t be an engineer if he’s a fag, he has to expect to get the Micky taken out of him’ Well no.

My theory is that Gay men do stereotypical jobs like hairdressing and air steward because they are are populated by females. If there was no gay-bashing in other industries and they were accepted in all trades then the proportion of homosexual men doing feminine jobs would drop. Gay men are still men. More importantly though it has become almost non-taboo to call things gay if they are bad. can you imagine the uproar if we started calling bad things Black. If we got children in schools saying that their homework was ‘Black so I am not doing it’ or commenting to the goalie after he let in a goal ‘Your so Black’

Basically what I am trying to say is that no matter how small a comment, if it is belittling any group of people on some level, you should say something. You may not change any minds but at least they may think twice before saying a similar comment to the next person they talk to on the scaffold, or the cocktail party.
