Trying to Turn People Into Robots
by I discuss the way society is changing and how automation is making people adapt into insular ways of thinking and behaving.
This afternoon I went into the local shopping centre and I wondered to myself what exactly is happening in society? People walked around and past me kind of zombie like and I felt the whole scenario was just in my face. I felt claustrophobic and felt people were rather aggressive in their mannerisms. I have noticed now that supermarkets have automated check out machines as do libraries and it seems like people are really being done away with. The very fabric of society is changing and people seem to be confused as to their real purpose and well being. Society also just seems so stressful.
The world seems so precarious in a lot of ways also. People seem afraid of existing in poverty and there also is the constant reality of the cost of living becoming so expensive that people’s lives will be affected day to day. Also people do not talk to each other and you are more or less left to your own devices when you ask someone for help. As I write this people may think I am depressed but I feel more or less confused about where the world is going. In all honesty a lot of people do not seem happy and at a recent church service, I heard the Minister talk about life in the next world. What is wrong with this one? Surely it is up to all of us to make change and make the world a better place? I also find that for honest people now that we are in the minority. If we try to do the right thing we are somehow penalised. We are made to feel bad. There just does not seem to be any accountability.
I think people are starting to lack or show emotion or community because it is no longer needed. As with the saying “I’m right Jack”. Everybody just seems to be out for themselves. It also seems that such thinking is the way to go now and if you don’t think like this then there is something seriously wrong with you and you need to change. Why is this so? In all honesty where do you think society is heading and does it concern you? How do you think you can make things better and is society changeable?
