Uganda`s Security Officers Held
The piece explains how two Uganda`s prison security officers robbed sh 100m from a top company in the country.

Two Ugandan prison awarders attached to Lira central prison are among six suspects apprehended by the police Rapid Response Unit for allegedly robbing at gun-point sh 100m from Mukwano group of companies.
Parading the suspects before the press at Lira central police station, the district police’s criminal investigation chief, Godwin Tumugumye said the gun used in the robbery was also recovered at Lira prison barracks.
Tumugumye who addressed the press together with the Central North RRU boss Jascob Kiyengo and the region’s spokesperson Henry Alyanga identified the prison warders as Francis Elunget and Moris Ocen.
He said the gun used in the robbery which occurred on the 6th December was recovered from Ocen.
“We also managed to recover sh 10.86m from different suspects,” Tumugumye said adding that two other suspects are still hiding.
Unknown gunmen attacked Mohammad Rafik, the company cashier while returning from stanbic bank Lira branch after withdrawing the money.
Rafik was using car number UAL 643Y when three suspected thugs came on a motorcycle and put them on gun point and took off with the money.
The incident according to the police occurred at 10:00am at the industrial area, just 30 meters from Mukwano factory.
Alyanga said the money was meant to be paid to the company extension workers who were waiting for the cash at the factory.
Tumugumye said after the incident they opened up the investigation and found out that there was inside connection.
He identified other suspects arrested as the chief security officer of Mukwano, Moris Ojok, George Ogwang, the driver, Joseph Odongo from Kampala and Abudallah Lwanga also from Kampala. Two suspects were taken to Kampala to help the police trace their colleagues.
The case is recorded as CRB 3977/2010 and the gun’s number is AK49004540 according to Tumugumye.
