Video Game Desensitization
A reality check on how video games are not the cause of shootings as told by the media.
With the constant attack on violent video games being brought up more and more often I question why can’t those in such power keep a realistic mind on the matter? Why must those who for starters im assuming have never even played these games think they know best?
We all know that violent video games and movies are popular. It’s often things that people can associate with, such as the real world element in them and the tabooed actions that we are limited from doing so in real life that are often hits on the market. Now that’s not to say that if people become accustomed to killing in a video game that they are going to do so in real life because they think they can (where not that stupid). Being able to do this in video games merely gives us the rush of doing such actions. It is a virtual world where such things can be done, a stress ball even. If someone plays a video game and gets that thrill they are seeking (not necessarily violent related) rather then doing it in real life where consequences occur which is why we have a law to stop that. But to be realistically who would kill in the real world? If such a large percentage of youths in particular enjoy these games then we would be in a pretty hell bent world if that was really the one reason people enjoyed these games rather then for the rush of a fun fast paced game. It’s the truly delusional who have become this way through life’s experiences that may not of been so positive for them. The debate on whether video games led them to such murders is futile. Not unloading enough stress could be the reason. Along with the main ones such as bullying or being left out or unloved at home or school. Video games if anything gives a peace of mind and enjoyment otherwise you wouldn’t be playing them.
If such people are so sure that violence in the games we play and the movies we watch are the causes then why are we introduced to such desensitization everywhere we look? A 5year old sitting in the car while being dropped off at school goes along the highway and see’s a large bulletin board of a person getting hit by a car. That’s not video game graphics. That’s real, and the event is real to. The child learns about death and what it really looks like, not a less pixilated virtual reality that distances them from the truth of death and the outcomes involved. If the news isn’t depressing enough we get to our ad breaks and see deaths of people getting hit by cars, smokers dying, violent drunks hospitalizing, drugs killing. Yes it shows us what we ‘shouldn’t’ do. But it’s falsified through it’s over exaggeration and induces fear into our life’s. Fear causes depression especially when we are being fed it daily. By the way. Aren’t most shooters described as depressed with life and end up taking their own lives in the end?
Now if we were never introduced to violence. The thought of such a thing as killing would never be their and yes violent video games would be a horrible reality and should be banned. But that’s not the case in this world. Everyone see’s violence however watching an action packed movie which can clearly be made out to be unrealistic with its high budgeted stunts, or playing a video game with blotchy graphics. However those in favour of banning these games are also those that show us the darkness of the world we live in and is a constant reminder of fear that if we act up we will die.
